Key Chapters
To understand the Buddha and the Christ as living realities, we must move beyond historical boundaries. The Buddha who sat under the Bodhi tree and the Christ who was crucified and resurrected both point toward transformation within the human heart. They are alive in anyone who practices mindfulness, compassion, and love. When I say 'living Buddha' or 'living Christ,' I mean the energy of awakening that manifests whenever someone touches life deeply.
In the Gospels, Jesus often says, 'I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.' To me, this declaration is not exclusive. It reveals how the Christ is a living path — a living awareness of love. Similarly, when the Buddha says, 'Whoever sees the Dharma sees me,' he is saying that awakening is not found in statues or doctrines but in direct experience. Both reveal the same mystery: the absolute becomes alive when embodied in understanding and compassion.
In meditation, when I breathe deeply and dwell in mindfulness, I can feel the Christ and the Buddha breathing with me. They are not separate energies but expressions of the same awakening. When a Christian practices loving their neighbor, and when a Buddhist practices compassionate awareness, both are continuing the work of their teachers. This is the real resurrection, the true enlightenment — the energy of the living Buddha and the living Christ manifesting in our daily lives.
In Buddhist practice, mindfulness is the energy that brings us fully into the present moment. It allows us to see, hear, and understand things clearly. Mindfulness is not an idea but a real, living energy that heals and awakens. In my dialogues with Christian friends, I have often been struck by the way they describe the Holy Spirit — the presence that inspires, consoles, and transforms. When we look deeply, we see that mindfulness and the Holy Spirit are two ways of speaking about the same experience of presence.
When you walk mindfully, each step touches the Kingdom of God. When you breathe deeply in awareness, the Holy Spirit is there, guiding you. It is through this living presence that we become free. Mindfulness keeps us anchored in the here and now, where life unfolds. The Holy Spirit, too, is a force that removes forgetfulness and restores faith in the sacredness of each moment. Both point us toward communion — with ourselves, each other, and with God or the ultimate dimension of being.
To practice mindfulness is to open the space for the Spirit to move through us. It is to be filled by that gentle wind Jesus spoke of — the wind that blows where it wills and gives life to all beings. When we remember this, we discover that the true temple is not a physical place but the awareness we bring to every act of living.
