Key Chapters

From the beginning, God shaped our bodies—and our hearts—for connection. The first chapters of Genesis reveal not merely a biological pairing but a sacred union that reflects the image of God Himself. When I think about Adam and Eve, naked and unashamed, I see not innocence lost but harmony fulfilled. That is what we were made for: intimacy that mirrors divine love. But somewhere along the way, we separated what was spiritual from what was physical. We made sex a subject for secrecy and shame, rather than celebration.

In this section, I draw deeply from Scripture to remind us that sex within marriage isn’t a concession to human weakness—it is a reflection of God’s design for covenant love. The body and spirit were never meant to be enemies. Yet in many of our churches, conversations about sex are reduced to warnings: don’t do this, don’t awaken that. We rarely talk about the beauty of sexuality as worship, as communion, as an act of knowing and being known. When sex is practiced in the context of trust, commitment, and faith, it becomes a living metaphor for God’s intimacy with us.

I share candidly about how I once viewed sex as a duty rather than a delight. I thought holiness meant detachment. But God patiently showed me that joy and holiness are not opposites—they are intertwined. Within marriage, physical pleasure is not something to fear but to receive as a gift. It becomes a way of embodying love, of sharing the self fully with another person, and of participating in the sacred rhythm God established at creation.

Understanding God’s design for sex changes everything. It transforms how we see our bodies, how we approach marriage, and even how we understand worship. To honor what God made is to delight in His creation—including the desire He implanted in us for intimacy.

One of the heaviest burdens we carry is silence. Especially for Christians, sexual shame festers in the dark. We avoid the topic in church, hide our struggles from our friends, and pretend fidelity to an image of purity that often masks our confusion. For years, I lived within that silence, afraid of judgment, haunted by questions I didn’t know how to ask.

When I finally began speaking about sex openly—with my husband, with friends, with younger women seeking guidance—I realized how desperate we all are for truth. The power of darkness lies in secrecy. But healing begins when we tell the truth. That’s why I wrote this book not as a theologian, but as a sister who has been there. I want to give permission for honest dialogue. The church cannot be a place of concealment; it must become a space of confession and celebration.

Breaking silence does not mean carelessly sharing private matters; it means dismantling the lies that keep us bound. It allows women and men alike to bring their shame into the light of grace. I’ve witnessed marriages change simply because couples dared to name their fears. When we bring God into our conversations about sex, we reclaim what shame tried to steal—our freedom to love fully and be loved fully.

If I could offer one invitation here, it would be this: stop hiding. Begin to talk about sex in the context of truth and mercy. When we give language to our confusion, we also open doors to healing. God isn’t shocked by your story; He longs to redeem it. Silence only keeps you from hearing His voice.
