In this book, I talk about how depression hijacks the “reward system” — the part of your brain that’s supposed to make you feel good after doing something productive. When that system goes offline, even brushing your teeth can feel pointless. I also explain that depression doesn’t necessarily need a traumatic trigger; sometimes it’s genetic, sometimes circumstantial, and sometimes it just happens because the brain is complicated as hell.

What’s important here is breaking the isolation that depression causes. It’s not your fault. You’re not weak. Dispelling myths is critical because it clears away the shame and confusion that block recovery. Once you stop seeing yourself through those false labels, you can start doing the work to heal without guilt.
