Yet I valued those years immensely, as they taught me how to navigate systems and articulate conservative constitutionalism in terms that demanded intellectual rigor.

But it was my service in the Navy, as a JAG officer deployed to Iraq with U.S. Navy SEALs, that taught me what leadership really means. In uniform, abstractions fall away; decisions matter because lives depend on them. Standing in the dust of Fallujah, working to ensure our warriors operated within the bounds of law while confronting enemies who rejected every standard of civilization, crystallized my belief that freedom has a price—and that courage is its currency.

That experience didn’t just prepare me for politics; it gave me moral clarity. The sense of mission I felt overseas became the core of my political philosophy: America’s greatness is sustained by those willing to preserve its founding truths, even under pressure. I returned home with a renewed sense that duty didn’t end with deployment—it extended into civil life, where defending liberty required political engagement and ethical fortitude.

When I entered politics, it wasn't because I sought personal advancement but because I saw the erosion of fundamental constitutional principles. My first congressional campaign was an uphill battle against the established order. Running as a conservative reformer meant carrying ideas that challenged entrenched interests—balanced budgets, limited government, and fidelity to the Constitution.
