In creating this race, I wanted to explore what immortality would truly cost. The Carpathians are powerful, gifted with the ability to shape-shift, heal, and sense life around them, but their greatest adversary is internal. Their transformation into vampires is not a sudden curse but the logical conclusion of despair. It is, in essence, a metaphor for the human struggle: when purpose fades, corruption follows.

Mikhail Dubrinsky bears the heaviest burden as their prince. To him falls the responsibility of keeping his people alive and hidden from human hunters while waging an endless battle against those of his kind who have fallen. He carries centuries of sorrow, convinced that he can no longer feel, yet unable to relinquish his duty. The Carpathian world, for all its beauty, has become a prison devoid of hope. It is this emotional void that sets the stage for everything that follows.

Raven Whitney flees to the Carpathian mountains, seeking silence after diving too deeply into the human psyche.
