The values that became the foundation of KIND were not invented in boardrooms; they were inherited from a home where empathy was sacred. My father, Roman Lubetzky, was a Holocaust survivor who taught me that treating people with dignity is not just kindness—it is survival. He carried scars deeper than I could imagine, yet his outlook was luminous. His stories made me aware of the suffering caused by prejudice and hate, and showed me how small acts of decency can restore faith in humanity.

Growing up in Mexico as the child of immigrants, I saw both privilege and inequality. My mother instilled in me curiosity and compassion. She would remind me that intelligence is empty if not linked to empathy. These lessons shaped my moral compass before I ever learned what an entrepreneur was.

As I matured, I realized that business could be a vehicle for the same empathy that sustained my family. My father’s survival was tied to people who chose to be kind at great risk. I wanted to build a world where kindness didn’t have to be a risk—it could be a core principle that drives decisions. The seeds of that conviction would later bloom in everything I created.

When I first entered the business world, I carried with me a naïve belief that products alone could shape bonds among people. That belief was tested when I launched PeaceWorks in the 1990s—a venture designed to promote cooperation between Arabs and Israelis through joint economic projects. It was a bold idea: if enemies could own something together, perhaps they could share a future too.

Those early years were both invigorating and excruciating. I spent months traveling the Middle East, sitting with entrepreneurs from Israel, Palestine, Jordan, and Lebanon. I discovered that economic projects could indeed bridge political divides—but only when guided by mutual respect and transparent incentives.

PeaceWorks was not a commercial triumph, at least not in conventional terms. But it was an invaluable crucible. It taught me that idealism must be anchored in structures and that empathy alone won’t substitute for business acumen. Every setback refined my understanding of practical idealism—the ability to pursue noble goals while executing with discipline. This hybrid approach—rooted in both heart and logic—became the philosophical foundation for everything that followed.
